Overview

LODGOV’s vision is to establish applicant’s research team as the premium R&D pole in LOD management and governance. The aim is to provide innovative technologies for best governance and curation practices for LOD in order to produce sustainable LOD ecosystems. LODGOV will handle the full lifecycle of LOD ecosystems, from data extraction, storage and maintenance, to monitoring, protection and repair. For this purpose, LODGOV will make novel scientific contributions and deal with several research challenges in three dimensions:

  1. LOD management. LOD includes links between resources from different data sources and a key challenge is to develop efficient and effective methods for exposing and managing large volumes of LOD from highly heterogenous and distributed data.
  2. LOD dynamics. As LOD spaces are evolving data spaces, a key challenge is to support data management in such evolving and interrelated information spaces, in such way that is always possible to step back (preservation support) and examine how and why changes took place (provenance support).
  3. LOD privacy. Publishing massive volumes of LOD related to several areas of human, social and economic activity raises major concerns about the protection of sensitive information. A key challenge is to develop methods to expose LOD by transforming the original data in a way that privacy requirements are satisfied, while at the same time, the information loss is minimum preserving the usefulness of the LOD.
